Worldly Shunning

i hear quite a bit of criticism about jehovah's witnesses enforcing 1 corinthians 5:9-13. while jehovah's witnesses have a formal system of maintaining the organization's core values; egocentric, self-worshiping secularists have an informal system of rejecting those of whom they have nothing in common with.

Worldy shunning......what an interesting idea! Hang on shunning has been going on for centuries in all forms. Look at the Jews.

On what grounds are you refering to worldy shunning. Religious? Human nature? Political? Culture? Race? To wrap them all up together is a little closed mined.

Religious shunning can happen in almost any religion, using the same line the GB use for their reason. Look at the protestants and catholics in norther ireland, ok that ones got political overtones it in it as well. Some christian faiths have a edict to shun those who reject their faith or policies. (gays in the catholic church iirc). Is this not the same as JW? What makes your shunning right and theirs wrong?

Lets look at human nature? Sometimes shunning is a good thing. A destructive relationship, abusive family. The disconnection from this is not a bad thing. Sometimes it is the only thing. Maybe they will change? then again Maybe not. But putting rule in place to govern the reinstatment would be silly. Each person has to think for themself and decide by their own choice of if they should associate with that person.

Shunning on a political basis, race or cultural is rampant. To say it wasn't would be silly. All around you it is happening! The rules that cause the shunning are no different to those of the WBTS. You disagree on a belief or viewpoint of mine and thus I am going to cut you out.

A white girl goes out with a black guy and the dad kicks her out, shuns her because of his belief that she shouldn't go with a black guy.

Is he right? The black guy could be the nicest bloke in the world and love his daughter but because he disagreed with his belief he shuns her.

Sound familar? Whats the difference between this and someone saying that they don't believe in the truth and getting shunned.

Nothing.

So what if she decides that the black guy is the wrong guy and a bad for her. In the GB world she would then have to prove her dedication. Lets put it in the case of the white girl. What would she have to do? Date a Klan member or how about a far right fascist to prove her beliefs?

Does this really solve the emotional hurt, in the example should the dad behave as if nothing has happened as the daughter has met the rules for re-instatment?

Would it not be better for the father to unconditionally love his daughter? Tell her that her actions hurt her but he loves her all the same.

When someone is reinstated in the JW does everyone behave to them like nothing happened? What happens to the hurt or anger those people felt when they were left or abandoned? be it from either side? Or do they behave as if nothing happened because the elder said they were okay now?

Shunning is a tool that has been around for YEARS for people to control people! Rules or no rules, it has been there since the begining and it is here now and as wrong now as it was then.

Did Jesus shun anyone?

Think about this:

You will never agree with everyone, period

There will always be some people you get on with and others you don't

Just because someone has a different belief or view point, doesn't make them a bad person that you should have nothing to do with.

Everyone is entitled to a view point and a feeling

Others shouldn't force their view point on others.

Unbelieving spouses and blood treatments.

sometime back, my wife and i discussed the possibility that i may wind up in a hospital with a condition that would require a blood transfusion to ensure my best chance for survival.

i asked her if i was unconscious and could not make the decision myself, what would she do?

her response was something along the lines of, "i will try to get the best treatment you can get.

We don't have children, but its blood all the way for me. We had the dicussion over this, and if we had children and she is clear that for me blood is route if needed. On the children front if we ever have them that they will get blood if it is necessary.

For her blood is her last option. She would rather have bloodless treatment, but knows that sometimes that just isn't an option. It also says the same in her living will.

Okay this is all said when she is calm and unemotional, could be completely different when it coems to the crunch.

But for me, life is more important and becomes before any religious law.

Do you know anything about Morocco?

i am going to meet attractive lady that is from morocco on july 3rd.

she teaches the language of french for living.

i do not know anything about morocco culture or anything like that.

Morocco is a great country. Wife and I spent our honeymoon there in Marrakech.

It was a orginally a french colony and as such the drivers are fairly wild! Common to see cars with a ding or 2 or 3 or 4. Loads of scooters too. Although the shops are priced, in the markets and souks everything is about haggling and 50% to 75% off the price they offer you is a good point to start. Will will get a little heated and wild but all good fun!

The people are very proud and passionate. Being English most of them wanted to talk football (soccer) with me so was fairly entertaining. Most people speak a dialect of arabic and french.

The berber tribe who are based more in south of the country are seen more of the underclass of the country. Wasn't completely sure why but they were easy to spot by their berber coats. Personally I thought the coats were cool and wanted to get one.

I loved the djemaa el fna which is the main square in the medina of marrakech. This is one crazy place with fresh orange juice sellers, food stalls, snake charmers, you name it! And by nighttime it is a mad house!

The food is great and lots of chicken and lamb with herbs and spices and lemon. Tangine is a regular but all the food we tried was good. a favorite of ours were the pastry made of filo, nuts and honey. Can't remember what it called but they were good.

Whilst there is a old system there, there is also a modern trendy side and some of the bars and restaurants are superb and stylish. Talking about style, Yves Saint Laurent has a house there which is uber cool and chilled. Especially considering its location and the crazyness on the streets outside!

We also went to Cassablance and visited the world's 3rd largest mosque and the one of the few non muslims are allowed into. We also went to rick's cafe!

I would definitely go back to morroco. For a muslim country its fairly progressive, the culture and history are fascinating.

well the district convention season is here!

dw and mil territory are due to go on the first weekend of july but that won't be happening as we are on holiday!.

add in that this weekend is a festival in town and the weekend after is a party the wife was more than keen to get the whole thing out of the way!.

So last saturday they were off! Now MIL is getting old so it was a little touch a go if she would be able to do the whole day but what happened did make me smile!

Yours truely settled in to watch the world cup! Argentina vs Nigeria followed by a shower and some pre match training (beer) for the big game!

As I am cracking open the beer who walks in the door but the wife and MIL!

me - Oh your home early!

Mil - yes I wasn't able to sit, i was very uncomfortable.

me - oh thats a shame.

So on that wife is joining me for the big game! Whilst we are in the car on the way down to the pub I ask her how the assembly was and it comes out that she nodded off almost as soon as she sat down and did "nodding dog" impressions for most of the morning!

Hope it made you smile, as it did me and put a brightener on a day where we lost 1-1 to the states in football

a schoolboy died after refusing a blood transfusion following a car crash because he was a jehovahs witness.. joshua mcauley, 15, suffered life-threatening injuries to his legs and abdomen after being pinned against a shop front by an out-of-control car as he went to buy sweets.. he survived the crash in smethwick, west midlands, and remained conscious, but lost a massive amount of blood and was airlifted to hospital for a transfusion.

The law in the uk on this is very vague which makes it very difficult for doctors.

Unfortunately the laws are very much biased towards the rights of the parents and children. Change is unlikely due to the "apparent" erosion of rights would be unacceptable.

In addition the WBTS is more than happy to put lawyers to work in suing anyone who challenges their "right to choose" and most hospital trusts are really not up for this.

In canada however there has been a couple of cases where the WBTS loss the most notable being the province of manatoba who won, against a lawsuit placed against them by a teenage JW girl who was given a blood transfusion.

I feel for the doctor. Imagine knowing you could have saved this lad and instead all you can do is watch him die........

Also prehaps the WBTS would like to pay for the cost of the air ambulance? Thats not cheap to run and can be the diffence between life and death?

Twisting Scripture vs A Literal Reading

knowing that passions run deep on this matter, i have what i believe to be a very simple premise for a discussion of how to read the bible.. terry has labored over the last couple of months to demonstrate (in my view, conclusively) that the bible is far from unaltered, and often mistranslated.

these facts, inconvenient as they might be for believers, are nonetheless, a problem for those who claim that the bible is the word of god.. this is not what i wish to discuss... rather..... jehovah's witnesses come from a tradition of "reading in" or "adding meaning" to the scriptures.

no one jw outside of the governing body is allowed to do this.. but why is it necesarry?.

Twisting the scriputes has been going on for centuries! But everyone does it to make the bible meet their own agenda. JW say that they live by the word of the bible but truth is that they themselves twist scripture and literals to suit their agenda.

Example 1

After the flood Noah was told by god that they mustn't eat the blood of any animal. Not to work on the sabbeth etc etc

The literal of this is you must drain the blood before you eat the animal.

The inference (twisting the scripture) is that you should not consume blood of another in any form.

Example 2

Jesus talks about how the shepard should save the live of a sheep even on the sabbeth. He makes a statement that life is more imortant than any law.

The literal of this is that the preservation of the life of the sheep is more important than law.

The inference is that any life is more important than any law.

Both these examples show how literals and inferences are twisted are used to meet the agenda of the faith interpreting them.

In intepreting, which is a natural human action we understand what is required of us, however it should always be done is a balanced consistant method.

Walking Dogs in 100-115 F. Summers

i'm thinking that the only time i'll be able to exercise my dog is after sundown at the dog park.

the pavement will be way too hot for her paw pads, too.

thinking of getting booties for her.. does anyone have suggestions for walking a dog in the desert in summer?.

During the height of the summer we are up at 5:30-6am to walk them and its a short walk as well. Maybe 30 minutes max but it really depends on the dog.

im so worried about my daughter ,need some advice please !

my daughter was abused by an ex min servant age 13 , she is now 22 and has been with her loving caring boyfriend for a year (he is her 1st boyfriend ) over the years she has been bulimic ,self harmed and suffered low self esteem , i thought she had got better since the relationship with her boyfriend started , i found out yesterday that she is no better at all and im frightened for her , her boyfriend said "that bastard haunts her" she suffers flashbacks and post traumatis stress disorder , due to the horrific things the abuser did and said to her , which i cant bare to go into detail about as i try to block it out my mind , unfortunatly my poor girl cannot !

she has had a lot of help by a psyciatrist , counsellor etc but is no better so what can i do to help ?

have any of you been in this situation ?

There is a group in the uk called "stop it now". I can't remember all the details but they are part of a larger foundation who work to support those who have been abused and their families.

Their details are on the internet and maybe of some help to you and your daughter.

i'm a californian, but a good friend in london just texted me saying there's a blitz of about 50 jehovah's witnesses in croydon right outside of where she's eating loaded up with watchtowers and setting up a stall and a speaker with a megaphone.

she also says that some of them are women in wheelchairs and that they're rolling in front of passers by and blocking them when they try to ignore them.

she says all of the pedestrians are telling them to fuck off and leave them alone because they're not interested in a cult, haha.. is this something new that the society is encouraging over there (or even more scary, everywhere?

In a previous post the term chav came up a few times. As per KT’s request I will try my best to explain the world of “chavdom”

Questions:

What is a chav?
Does a chav know he/she/it’s a chav?

1. A chav is probably best described as the lowest form of social England. They are a breed of half-human Jerry Springer trailer trash delinquents as young as 8 (Im guessing - it could be younger) with no max age by the looks of it. They can be found hanging around McDonalds, parks, fish and chip shops or tube stations in groups smoking and drinking. They wear imitation brand name tracksuits with boxers or red knickers sticking out the back, football team insignia , mini mini skirts, loads of huge, fake, cheesy jewelry (Bling Bling) and makeup that must have been applied with a spatula . They say things like “innit”, “large”, “oi mate, u fink” and “booya” a lot and can never manage to finish a word or sentence properly (at all). I reckon at least 25% of them are pregnant or onto their 2nd child by the age of 17. A pram (stroller/baby buggy) is an acceptable chav accessory as long as its Burberry with racing stripes and an Adidas, Chelsea, Liverpool or England emblem on it. They are more of a menace to themselves than a menace to society. They are generally found in areas that have an abundance of council housing (low cost welfare apartments) and are spawned from lazy ass teenagers who have extra kids to claim more from the dole (more kids = more drinking money). The slightly flasher (wealthier) ones join scooter gangs and try and kill themselves in traffic. They are only really a problem during school holidays, in groups of 5 or more or when they have a new girl they are trying to impress. If abused by these pricks, a good swift punch to the head normally quietens them down and leaves no markings you can get arrested for (** so I hear). Be careful though, the higher the age and the size of the group, is directly proportional to the likelyhood of you getting the shit kicked out of you cos they fight like pack hounds.

2. After almost choking on my food and blowing rice through my nose trying to hold back hysterical laughter when I was asked that question, I gave it a little bit of thought. Does a chav know he/she/it’s a chav? You know the more I think about it the scarier the answer becomes. I reckon they DO! And worse off, I reckon they LOVE IT! It’s their way of being accepted into their own gutter smut society. It has become a way of life for many of these youths and is the only way to be cool in East and Souteast London! “Ya fink ya fooken luvvin yer missis large innit”. If they are the next ruling generation, God help us all. Take the test below. You never know, you might be a chav and this might answer the question… DID YOU KNOW??

the author says, i'm not sure if you are aware of this fact or not: if you look at the awake!

may 2009 pg 11 , it says that jerusalem siege was in 607, according to professor michael jursa working in the british museum, but curiously if you go to the british museum official webpage, (in "search" put michael jursa) you ll see that it says the siege of jerusalen was in 587 bc !!.

Yep thats right! He wasn't even king in 607! So how could he have destroyed Jerusalem during his reign when he wasn't even king?????
